Cotton-yarn production is migrating to East Asia from China, which has become less competitive, according to Armelle Gruere, a consultant to the Washington- based International Cotton Advisory Committee.
While China is still the main cotton consumer, using about 40 percent of world production, its consumption of the fiber peaked “several years ago,” Gruere said in an interview on the sidelines of a commodity-industry meeting in Geneva.

A new technology developed by AgResearch that allows wool to be dyed in two separate colours at the same time has been licensed globally.
The process allows woollen clothing to include graphics and images which are dyed directly into the fabric.
The innovation is being commercialised by BGI Development. It has signed an exclusive deal with US firm Global Merino which will produce activewear using the new technique.

In February 2013, the amount of cotton import in China kept falling, while the average price recovered slightly. According to the Custom, the monthly import reaches 378.8 thousand ton, 78.7 thousand ton less than January, which is approximately 17% down. Comparing with last February in 2012, the amount dropped 237.3 thousand ton, with 38.5% down. The monthly average price is ,878 per ton, higher than January, which gains 0.7% growth, but drops 18.7% than last February.
