Pakistan’s cotton output has risen by 11 per cent to 14.871 million bales this season compared to 13.391m bales a year earlier.
According to Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association’s (PCGA) final phutti (seed cotton) report for the current season, Punjab has produced 10.896m bales, showing a growth of 13.14pc over 9.631m bales last season.
Sindh recorded a growth of 5.7pc in cotton production at 3.974m bales as against 3.76m bales produced last season (2013-14).

Spun yarns made of man-made fibres recorded sharp decline in export both in terms of volume and value. During March, a total of 6.85 million kg of man-made spun yarn were exported, comprising 3 million kg of polyester yarn, 2.1 million kg of viscose yarn and 1.7 million kg of acrylic yarn. A garment factory caught fire in the Site area of the city near Valika Hospital on Monday.
Five factory workers including women have been injured in the third degree fire as fire tenders from across the city rushed to Site to control the blaze.
